Gut Guntrams is a nature hotel with an organic farm in Guntrams, near Schwarzau am Steinfeld in Lower Austria. The nature hotel comprises three different accommodation areas: the Flora guest house with six double rooms, Villa Tranquillini with two large and one smaller apartment, and three solid-timber garden lofts with designer interiors.
The estate also comprises the Veranda restaurant, the Edelmacherei – a facility for the natural processing of agricultural produce – and the Orangery, an architecturally remarkable glasshouse housing various citrus plants. The grounds also feature a crystal garden well worth seeing, which is looked after by the Arche Guntrams Nature Museum.

Gut Guntrams is known as a nature hotel because it is situated amongst organic farmland, species-rich meadows, vegetable plots and mighty old trees, as well as a natural swimming pond, and deliberately focuses on a slower pace of life, timber construction, solar power and sustainability. The organically farmed land is home to heritage fruit varieties, vegetables, herbs and other crops. Part of the harvest is processed directly on the estate and in the ‘Edelmacherei’.

The Naturhotel Gut Guntrams is situated between Wiener Neustadt, the Buckliger Welt and the Vienna Alps. This makes it easy to combine a nature holiday with day trips. Nearby attractions include Seebenstein Castle, the ‘Türkensturz’ viewing rock and the charming village of Pitten. Wiener Neustadt is just as easily accessible as the Rax, Schneeberg, Semmering and the Hohe Wand in the Vienna Alps.
Gut Guntrams is conveniently situated near the A2/A6 motorway junction, making it the perfect place to stop off and relax whilst travelling south, or on your way home or through to Germany, Hungary and South-Eastern Europe. Many guests enjoy staying a little longer at the Naturhotel.

Gut Guntrams harmoniously blends modern solid-timber architecture, historic buildings and an extraordinary glass pavilion with an equally diverse natural landscape. This fusion of nature and architecture makes every stay a harmonious experience.

The veranda, garden lofts and the Flora guest house were designed by the Regensburg-based firm Gebauer and Wittmann, whilst the orangery was designed by Halbritter and Hillerbrand (Vienna); Villa Tranquillini was acquired in 1917 by the architect, master builder and carpenter Rüdiger J. Walter and furnished with furniture he had made himself. In 2028, it was renovated and refurnished.

Apart from having a similar-sounding name, Guntrams and Guntramsdorf have nothing in common, yet they are often confused with one another.

Guntrams is a small village in the municipality of Schwarzau am Steinfeld and lies between Wiener Neustadt and the Bucklige Welt.

Guntramsdorf, on the other hand, lies between Wiener Neustadt and Vienna.

The name Guntrams has been handed down in its older form as ‘Gundrams’. The place name is thought to have originally referred to a farmstead, estate or small settlement ‘belonging to Gundram’. Guntrams is first attested in writing by 1590 at the latest; at that time, the settlement consisted of nine farming households.

There is no evidence to suggest that Guntrams and Guntramsdorf trace back to the same ancestor, Guntram or Gundram. The name Guntrams was in common use throughout the early medieval Frankish region. It is composed of the Old High German syllables ‘gund’ (‘battle’) and ‘hraban’ (‘raven’), and thus means ‘the battle raven’. It was a popular Germanic noble name in the Early Middle Ages.
